• U.S. Election Assistance Commission's new 2004 Election Day Survey, the largest and most comprehensive survey on election administration ever conducted by the feds. "The 2004 Election Day Survey tells us a great deal about voting and elections practices throughout the country," explains EAC Chair Gracia Hillman. "The survey provides critical statistics on voter registration and turnout, voting equipment and locations, and other information about the voting process. All of this will assist us in making certain that every vote is counted fairly and accurately." In addition to extensive data breakdowns based on responses to 43 questions, the survey concluded that voter turnout rate was 60.7 percent.  Read the report at: http://www.eac.gov/election_survey_2004/intro.htm

  • My Brother's Keeper: A Memoir and a Message

    • Amitai Etzioni. In My Brother's Keeper: A Memoir and a Message, one of America's most admired public figures tells the story of his life. Born in Germany in 1929, Amitai Etzioni escaped the Nazi regime and as a teenager dropped out of high school to fight as a commando in the Israeli War of Independence. He went on to earn his doctorate at Berkeley, teach at Columbia University and Harvard Business School, and serve as senior advisor to the Carter White House. In his own words, Dr. Etzioni reflects on his vision of a society whose members care profoundly about one another, assume responsibilities and do not just demand rights, and attend not merely to themselves, but also to the common good. He traces how this message spread and is playing a significant role in the public life of the United States, United Kingdom, and many other free and liberated societies.
