Distinguished Former
Student Awards 2008

This prestigious, annual award honors a select few former students who have  become world-class ambassadors of the university and the UCO Alumni Association.  Award recipients have achieved distinctive and notable accomplishments in
one of three categories:  Professional,
Community Service, and Service to the University.

Nomination Guidelines

Professional

Distinguished Former Students in this category are recognized for their accomplishments in their chosen profession.  Criteria for measuring achievement includes:

  • Recognized leadership qualities.

  • Impact on and success in the field.

  • Dedication to field (includes volunteerism, educational outreach, etc.).

  • Recognition within the field.

  • Length of professional service.

  • Degrees earned.

  • Publications, research, etc., within field (if applicable).

Community Service

This category honors former students whose voluntary leadership, dedication, and contribution of time, effort and enthusiasm improve the quality of life in their neighborhood, community, city, state, or nation.  The accomplishments of a Community Service Distinguished Former Student are especially enduring in value because their work results from personal commitment rather than a desire for personal gain. 

University Service

Alumni honored with these awards have a true devotion to UCO; a lasting love for the university, as demonstrated through substantial contribution of time and resources.

Nomination Guidelines

1. Persons making nominations must include an Official Nomination Form (copies are acceptable), a formal letter of introduction, a detailed biographical history or resume of no more than two pages, and a minimum of two letters of recommendation (from people other than the person making the nomination.)

2. Nominations must be received in the Alumni Association office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008.

3. All persons named as Distinguished Former Students must attend the Alumni Awards Ceremony on Friday, October 24, 2008.

4. Awards may or may not be awarded in all categories each year.

5. Awards Committee members and their immediate families are not eligible.

6. Former students will not be honored posthumously.
