   CENTENNIAL PROJECTS

UCO Endeavor Games

The 8th Annual Endeavor Games for Athletes with Physical Disabilities, hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), has recently been recognized as an official event of the Oklahoma Centennial.  The games will be held at UCO, Edmond North High School and Cheyenne Middle School, June 7-10, 2007.

Building Traditions, Educating Generations:  A History of the University of Central Oklahoma

Building Traditions is a book-length manuscript on the University of Central Oklahoma (then called the Territorial Normal School), the first public institution for higher education in the Oklahoma Territory.  The book offers an abundance of images of Edmond and Central history alongside thoroughly researched text.  Uniquely, the book also highlights certain aspects of UCO history written by UCO students, alumni and staff.  Read more about it here!

"The Broncho" Statue

Oklahoma artist Harold T. Holden has created a spectacular tribute to the spirit of Oklahoma and the University of Central Oklahoma.  This public work of art, skillfully depicting a bucking broncho, is a life sized (9' - 10') bronze, heralding the entry to UCO.  In addition, Mr. Holden created 100 limited edition maquettes and 400 prints of "The Broncho."

Display Gardens

Display gardens are planned throughout the campus that will showcase trees, shrubs, and perennials that are native to Oklahoma. Outdoor furniture and statues will also be added.

Centennial Patches for Athletes

UCO's athletes will all wear a Centennial Patch on their uniforms, beginning with the basketball season and ending with the 2007 football season.

The Banner Project

During the centennial year, flag poles throughout campus will display a centennial banner instead of the traditional UCO banner.

The Library Displays

Since 2007 is Oklahoma's Centennial Year, the library has created a year-long display to celebrate Oklahoma's history. The display is located in the public area on the first floor of the library.

Part of the display will remain the same throughout the year, and part of it will rotate, to focus on various aspects of Oklahoma's history, such as: Oklahoma’s Wild West Shows, cowboys and cattle trails, outlaws, the oil industry in Oklahoma, the role of the railroads, etc. Faculty and students are encouraged to avail themselves of the information sheets and booklists that will be provided as part of the display.”

A second display will appear in the government documents section of the library on the second floor.  It will highlight Oklahoma history, UCO history, and internet resources for centennial information.
