CGC Certifications
The Centre for Global Competency offers two Certifications:

CGC 2010
CGC 2020
The CGC Certification 2010 entails three required components: Academic Achievement, Global Experience, and a Capstone Project (Personal Reflection), as described below. The CGC Certification 2020 entails the three aforementioned components as well as a mandatory study abroad experience, also described below.
The Academic Achievement component of the CGC certification 2010 and 2020 consists of a 9 hours curriculum designed by the student, advisors from the Centre, and faculty advisors that intertwines with a standard degree program with no additional hours required. This curriculum includes classroom experiences in at least one foreign language, communication courses, and other courses related to international experiences. The completion of the prescribed course work ensures that students are exposed to a wide array of international experiences in a classroom setting, as well as providing valuable training to carry into their future professions.
The Global Experience component consists of co-curricular experiences both on and off campus. These experiences aim to create a personal experience between the student and a different culture in Oklahoma. UCO presents numerous opportunities for a student to connect with different cultures, through International Student organizations, clubs, on-campus chapters of International Organizations like Invisible Children, and even living with international students in residence halls. The Centre also encourages students to seek opportunities off campus, including service projects with organizations like Worldwide International Student Help (WISH), tutoring English as a second language in local public schools, local internships related to international affairs, and several others. Advisors from the Centre help students find appropriate, engaging experiences that illustrate diversity close to home, preparing students to find diversity throughout the world. We encourage our students to contact the Centre for Global Competency to inquire a list of International events held on UCO campus.
Ultimately, the Capstone Project (Personal Reflection) shows the student and the Centre the effects of the transformational change stimulated by participation in the Academic and Global Experience components. The Reflection Component takes inventory of the personal changes each student experiences through the assimilation of thoughts, ideas, and languages of other cultures. Students analyze the myriad of factors that created and influenced personal change and then document those changes in a final capstone project, such as a portfolio, reflection paper, photo journal, or others. The final Reflection projects serves as tangible evidence of the value of the International experience for each student.
