XXXVIII FACULTY SENATE

March 12, 2008

New Bills

Four new bills have been filed in the Senate in the last few weeks. Each holds the possibility of significantly affecting UCO faculty.

FSP 04 would make faculty parking permits valid for all lots, including student and lots. The bill, authored by Theresa Vaughan, argues that sometimes student parking spaces are more convenient and available than faculty parking spaces. Thus, the bill argues, faculty should be able to park in the more convenient lots.

FSR 05 would provide faculty with access to the Student ID photos of students enrolled in their courses. The bill, authored by Rashi Shukla, is intended to help faculty better recognize their students by having student ID photos available.

FSR 06, also by Rashi Shukla, calls on the university to provide faculty with updated digital telephones at a lower price. Currently, faculty are limited in their telephone options (choosing either a $40 phone or a $475 dollar phone). However, less expensive options are available at off-campus retailers. This bill would allow faculty to be reimbursed for making off-campus telephone purchases.

Finally, FSR 07, by John Ferguson, calls on the university to create four new honorific titles to recognize exemplary efforts on the part of senior faculty. Only faculty who have held the rank of Professor for at least five years would qualify to receive one of these titles. Each title also carries a significant, but temporary, financial reward as well.

The Senate welcomes any and all comments on these three bills. Please contact your college's Senators to share your thoughts.
