Groundbreaking for the new Forensic Science Institute was held on June 18, 2008
The facility will be approximately 35,000 square feet and have a 165 seat auditorium and three 50 seat classrooms.
The new FSI facility will also contain office space for all FSI personnel and an atrium for functions and receptions.

The FSI facility is due to be completed in the Fall 2009.

One of many features in the FSI facility will be an evidence recovery training area that can be utilized in mock crime scenes and evidence collection from vehicles.
The FSI Building was designed by nationally recognized Frankfurt Short Bruza of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The building will be constructed by locally owned and operated Timberlake Construction
On February 15, 2008 the AT&T Foundation awarded a $1 million grant to the University of Central Oklahoma to establish the AT&T Digital Evidence and Cyber Security Laboratory within the Forensic Science Institute.
