"WALK IT OUT", UCO's signature event in preparation for the Oklahoma City Metro Heart Walk, was held on Wednesday, April 9 from 11:00-1:00 despite the wind and rain. With the permission of professors and/or supervisors, students and staff were able to take an extra hour for lunch to WALK IT OUT!  The "ticket" to walk out was a $10 UCO Heart Walk t-shirt that could be purchased at various locations on campus beginning around March 10.

 UCO raised $8, 974.78!

Congratulations Prize Winners:

Nintendo Wii Winner - Ronica Ruiz

Dell Computer Winner - Julie Baer

All t-shirt proceeds were donated to the Oklahoma County American Heart Association.   Walkers chose from 3 different routes around the perimeter of our main campus using the UCO Walking Trails or created their own fun route. There were also several  Booths around Broncho Lake highlighting their positive impact on Healthy Living. Flatire Burgers grilled veggies burgers and chicken sandwiches for the hungry crowd. Everyone who purchased a t-shirt was eligible to participate in the event, and invited to sign up for the drawings at the Healthy Campus Booth.

Both student organizations and community businesses joined forces to promote healthy living. Dell Computers gave away a FREE COMPUTER, and University Health Services gave away a FREE Nintendo Wii in a drawing at the end of “Walk It Out”. UCO will continue having fun and fighting heart disease by participating in the OKC Metro Heart Walk at Bricktown on April 19 at 8:30 for the OKC Metro Heart Walk!   Edmond Sun article
