Graduate Statement of Understanding

(Revised August 2008)

Please read each statement carefully.  By agreeing to these terms for admission, you understand fully the UCO academic, administrative, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regulatory policies to become a UCO student on an F-1 visa.

  1. I understand that I must submit all application forms and supporting documents to the Jackson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) before the deadline date listed on page 1.  If my application failed to meet the deadline, it will be considered for the next earliest semester.

  1. I understand that all information given on the application forms must be accurate.  Failure to list all colleges previously attended, or falsification of application information or any of my academic records will result in immediate denial for admission or will result in my suspension for academic misconduct and lead to my withdrawal from UCO.

  1. I understand that if English is not the primary language in my country, I must meet the English proficiency requirement outlined on page 1 before the admission will be granted.  However, I may submit the application for admission to JCGS without having met the English proficiency requirement but only for evaluation of my academic credentials.  If JCGS determines that I may be accepted for admission when the English proficiency requirement is met, I may apply for admission to an intensive English language program at an approved language school in the U.S. The form I-20 will be issued by the language school.

  2. I understand that official score report must be sent directly from the testing company for required tests.

  1. I understand that I must have a 4-year U.S. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent to be considered for admission to the JCGS. I understand that the JCGS will determine my qualifications based on the standards established by the programs, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, and by recommended and accepted international credential evaluation practices used as members of NAFSA: Association of International Educators and American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO).

  1. I understand that if accepted for admission to the program by the JCGS, I will receive ICE form I-20. The International Office must have proof of my financial resources and a copy of my passport before admission documents will be sent to me. After meeting all the requirements, if the International Office deems that based on the current world events, there is not sufficient time for the visa process, the form I-20 may be issued for the next earliest semester.

  1. I understand that after I have received the form I-20 and have secured the F-1 visa, I will be eligible to enroll on-line if I fax or e-mail a scanned copy of the visa in my passport to the International Office (405-974-3842).

  1. I understand that if, for any reason, I am not able to arrive at UCO by the first week of the semester, I must return the form I-20. If I have already registered for the classes on-line, I must make a request for withdrawal from the classes to avoid financial obligation. If I wish to defer my enrollment at UCO to a future semester, I must inform the International Office of my intention within 30 days of the reporting date on the form I-20 to avoid cancellation of my record in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitors Information System).

  1. I understand I may be required to deposit or be prepared to bring with me to UCO sufficient funds (a minimum of $5,000) to cover tuition, fees, textbooks and supplies, hospitalization insurance, and living expenses for my initial semester. I further understand that additional funds must be at my disposal for the duration of my program at UCO.

  1.  I understand the importance of maintaining my visa status by making good academic progress at all times during my stay in the U.S. I understand that I am required to enroll and successfully complete a minimum of nine (9) graduate level credit hours or twelve (12) combined graduate and undergraduate credit hours during spring and fall semesters.

  1. I understand that my visa status will prohibit my engaging in off campus employment without prior authorization from ICE. If I am found to be working off campus without prior authorization, I will lose my visa status and may face immediate deportation.

  1. I understand that I am required to have health insurance coverage while I am a student at UCO. This mandatory insurance plan is offered through UCO as a part of my school fees.

  1. I understand that I must attend a mandatory orientation for new students at the beginning of my initial semester at UCO.

  1. I understand that I must submit current address information to the International Office within 10 days when there is any change either in my residence in the U.S. or in my family address in my home country.

  1. I understand that I am required to complete a tuberculosis skin test during my first semester at UCO Student Health Center before permitted to enroll for subsequent semesters.  I understand that if an X-Ray is required as the result of testing, I must visit an off-campus facility at an appointed date and time to meet the testing requirement for enrollment.

  1. I understand I that I must bring with me the required immunization record completed by my physician. If additional immunization is required, the Student Health Center will assist me in obtaining the required immunization.
