What is a Learning Community? |
|
|
"Learning Communities have arrived as a national movement: Curricular learning communities are the purposeful restructuring of an undergraduate curriculum to thematically link or cluster courses and to enroll a common group of students in these courses."
J. MacGregor & B.L. Smith About Campus: Enriching the Student Learning Experience May-June 2005
A learning community is a group of people
who share common values and beliefs and are actively engaged in learning
together from each other.
Why apply for a Learning Community?
In a
variety of institutional settings and in a number of forms, learning
communities have been shown to increase student retention and academic
achievement, increase student involvement and motivation, improve students
time to degree completion, and enhance student intellectual development.
