Students with Disabilities
On behalf of the University and the Disability Support Services Staff, we would like to welcome you to the University of Central Oklahoma. Disability Support Services focuses on facilitating opportunities to stimulate and create a barrier free environment, eliminating academic, social, and physical obstacles which impede students' access to a higher education. We believe every student has the right to achieve their highest ability academically, socially, and intellectually. It is important for individuals with disabilities who anticipate attending UCO to acquaint themselves with UCO's facilities, grounds, academic requirements, and support services. This insight will assist in ensuring academic success.
Prospective and newly admitted students with disabilities have every opportunity to achieve at UCO. The next available opportunity will be during Orientation and Stampede Week. This will be in the Nigh University Center Ballroom on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At that time DSS and Students for an Accessible Society (SAS) will provide incoming students with information about the UCO community and opportunities to understand the basic information (i.e. test taking, note taking and scholarship information) to aid in the student's success in college. The campus offers a variety of planned programs to ensure student participation in diversified campus activities. These activities address disability, diversity and multiculturalism. The University is committed to providing guidance and information assisting students to make timely preparation and plans for attending college. Other services offered include assistance in evaluating one's strengths and weaknesses, encouraging independence for managing daily academic and non-academic routines. These services are designed to create a successful college experience at UCO.
