Educational Programs



The following educational programs are currently offered by the Student Counseling Center Staff. These programs average 50 minutes in length, however adjustments can be made, if needed.
 

*You may click on the program you would like, fill out the Outreach Request Form and then submit it. Someone from the counseling staff will contact you about your request.

*Listing alternative dates and times will increase our availability.

*The SCC staff will not be able to honor every request, due to other job responsibilities, but will make every effort to honor as many as possible.

* Outreaches are arranged from 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. To request presentations after 4 pm, please call Jan Chapel at 974-2215.

* Contacting us early in the semester will enable us to better meet your needs.

*If you request a PowerPoint presentation, the equipment will need to be available.

Time Management for College Students
This is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation designed to help college students find ways to make sound, intentional decisions about how their time is spent. Students will be guided in exercises to help them understand how they use their time and to find ways to fit their priorities to their use of time.

Safety Issues for Women on Campus
This program is designed to help women recognize signs of danger, keep themselves safe from danger, and how to react safely when they find themselves in dangerous situations. Women are also given resource information so that they can get appropriate help if they are assaulted.

This is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation designed to help students study in a more planful, intentional way. Students are encouraged to make study sessions more dynamic and to enhance memory by incorporating auditory, visual, and kinesthetic versions of their study materials.

This is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that incorporates some of the main points of the "Effective and Efficient Studying" presentation with sound advice for test taking. Students are encouraged to prepare for tests and to use problem solving skills to succeed in the testing situation. Multiple choice, true/false, & essay tests are covered.

This is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation designed to break through myths and teach the facts about eating disorders. Students are informed of consequences of eating disorders, focusing on dangers to the victim's health. Powerful photographs and artwork created by individuals struggling with eating disorders make this a dynamic presentation.

This is an experiential presentation teaching several different ways to reduce stress. Techniques to reduce the physical, emotional, and cognitive signs of stress include yoga, deep breathing, guided imagery, journaling, and music therapy.

True Colors is a personality assessment tool which helps students understand their personality style and how to effectively relate to others, whether it is in the classroom, with family and friends, or in the workplace as an employee or supervisor.

This Microsoft PowerPoint presentation outlines the steps to forgiveness, and the psychological and physical benefits of forgiveness.

How Your Mental Health Affects Your Physical Health
This presentation offers research in the field of psychoneuroimmunology (mind/body) and how students can improve their physical health using mind/body techniques, such as journaling, altruism, relaxation techniques, and music.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training
QPR stands for: Question, Persuade and Refer. QPR teaches how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to get help for an at-risk person. This is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that also includes a video segment, requiring a video tape player and monitor.

This is a 10-15 minute presentation that introduces the Student Counseling Center to students. It includes location of the SCC, hours of operation, and how to access services.

Introduction to Stress Management Software Freeze Framer
This is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation designed to introduce students to the Freeze Framer interactive learning system. Freeze Framer teaches students to reduce their stress level by training them to control excessive physiological arousal, mediate unhelpful thought patterns, and utilize positive emotional states to achieve a balanced state of mind, body and emotions. Freeze Framer Software is located in our Stress Reduction Lab in NUC 419.
