    The Division of Student Affairs was awarded a grant from the Department of Justice that will fund programs to Prevent Violence Against Women. A position will be created at UCO to fill the duties and responsibilities of the program and the training involved.

     

    March, 2008
    UCO has been granted two AmeriCorps VISTA positions as part of a state-widegrant; the two positions will be working to map poverty and build the
    capacity of UCO to address community needs. These two positions are
    government-funded and will last for three years. Our first VISTA has been
    hired and will start Monday, March 3rd.

    Dr. Bruce Lochner, Director of the Student Counseling Center and Assistant VP for Student Affairs, was a guest lecturer at the University of Hawaii-Monoa and Argosy University in Hawaii in July.

    Dr. Dennis Dunham, Director of International Student Services, presented on "Partnering with the Community in the Quest for Global Competency" at the Governor's Global Education Conference at Rose State College.

    Dr. Dennis Dunham, Director of International Services, presented at the Creative Oklahoma Conference at UCO. He spoke to the subject of how we are using collaborative improvisation in the development of the Centre for Global Competency.

    SEPTEMBER, 2007
    Dr. Bruce Lochner, Director of the UCO Student Counseling Center and Assistant VP for Student Affairs, is partnering with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse to bring the "Prevention Oriented Campus" program to UCO. This program will make us a model institution for teaching students, staff and faculty how to identify students in psychological distress, as a campus violence preventative measure.


    SEPTEMBER, 2007
    Dr. Bruce Lochner, Director of the UCO Student Counseling Center and Assistant VP for Student Affairs, has been appointed from the Chancellor of Higher Education to serve on a Campus Life Safety and Security committee that is tasked with reviewing college counseling recourses and making recommendations to the Regional University Systems of Oklahoma.

    The UCO Volunteer and Service Learning Center is happy to announce that the University of Central Oklahoma has been included on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary community service during the 2006-2007 academic year. Launched in 2006, the Honor Roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support innovative, effective and exemplary community service and service learning programs.

    A site visitor from the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS) came to review the Student Counseling Center as a step in achieving National Accreditation.
