Training Programs
The purpose Training Program is to
facilitate and further professional development of trainees,
including clinical and conceptualization skills and
relationship-building abilities in the context of a supportive,
growth-enhancing environment. Training opportunities currently
include a doctoral level practicum and are being expanded to
include future opportunities for pre-doctoral interns.
Post-doctoral fellowships have been offered in the past and
inquiries about future possibilities should be directed to the
SCC Director,
Dr. Bruce Lochner.
The Training program is designed so that
trainees can individualize their training experience,
emphasizing areas that fit well with their own interests,
desired growth areas, and skills. For example, a trainee with
strong interest in outreach programming may choose to focus on
this aspect of the experience, while an trainee who may be more
interested in group counseling may choose to develop and
co-facilitate a group. Trainees may choose to focus on
particular areas such as
suicide prevention training
(link to QPR) and
sexual assault prevention and response.
Trainees will work with university students coping with a
variety of concerns such as relationships, life transitions,
loss and grief, self-image, depression, eating issues, anxiety,
stress, career choices; and in some cases, alcohol and other
drug abuse. Trainees will have
the opportunity to
work with short-term clients as well as to provide longer-term
counseling, as appropriate to client needs.
