WARPT: Women's Acquaintance Rape Prevention Training

WARPT: What Will I Learn from WARPT?

WARPT is a training group designed to help you learn how to be aware of possible dangers in a variety of situations BEFORE it’s too late to get out gracefully.  WARPT is not only designed to help you avoid rape, but to teach you how you can be more in control of the situation – whether at a date, at a party, or even in a elevator with someone who creeps you out just a little!

Some of the topics covered in WARPT include:

  • What is consent? Why do some guys think they have it when they don’t?

  • What are some of the effects of sexual assault on college women?

  • How can I help a friend who has been assaulted?

  • How can I help friends who are careless about their safety?

  • How can I say ‘no’ to a guy I like if I still want a relationship with him?

  • What do you mean by ‘date rape drugs’ and (get real) would anyone really use them at UCO?

  • If I like to have a drink now and then, how can I know how this will affect me (and my date)?

  • How can I tell whether a guy is ‘safe’ or not?

Finally, the last session of WARPT is a self defense class where you will learn some simple moves you use to protect yourself if you DO end up in an unsafe situation.

If you have any questions about WARPT, please call or e-mail  Dr. Elissa Dyer (974-2215; edyer@uco.edu).   We would be glad to answer your questions about WARPT!
