24th Annual Miss Black University of Central Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant

  • Come enjoy a Jazzy Affair as eight contestants vie for the title of Miss Black University of Central Oklahoma 2008-2009.  This is an event you do not want to miss.  
    Time: 7:00 p.m.
    Location: Mitchell Hall
    Tickets are $5 with UCO ID, $7 without. 

Sunday, February 3:
NAACP Soul Food Pot Luck

  • If you can cook or at least bring a food item to feed the soul, we welcome you to enjoy a night of soul food. The best dish and dessert will compete for prizes and recognition!

Monday, February 4:
Multicultural Student Services Black History Month Kickoff Reception

  • Join us as we celebrate and admire the numerous contributions of African Americans.  This year we follow the West African concept of Sankofa, "to move forward, you must reclaim the past. In the past, you find the future and understand the present" Haile Gerima.

BSA Welcome Back Meet and Greet

  • The Black Student Association is back! New members, “senior” members, and potential members are encouraged come and learn what BSA has planned for the semester.

NAACP and KOS Keeping it Real!

  • A forum to discuss issues facing the African-American community. The goal of this forum is to voice concerns in an effort move forward and strive for unity.

INROADS Internship Informational Luncheon

  • Do you need an internship?  Have you wondered why everyone is always saying you need an internship? What is an internship?  You will learn the answers to these questions and more at the INROADS Internship Informational Luncheon.  INROADS is a non-profit organization that trains and develops talented minority youth for professional careers in business and industry. An INROADS representative will be present to answer your questions.

NAACP National Birthday

  • Celebrate the 99th Anniversary of NAACP! The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the nation’s oldest pre-eminent civil rights organization.  Light refreshments provided.

Wednesday, February 13:
African American Faculty Staff Association Black History Month Keynote Address

  • The Audacity to Dream: African American Success Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Join the African American Faculty Staff Association for the third annual Black History Month Keynote Address. The keynote speaker will be M.T. Berry, Assistant City Manger for Oklahoma City. In addition be being an UCO alumni, M.T. Berry also has the distinguished honor of having served as Oklahoma City's first African American Chief of Police.  The program will also include special recognition of Blanche Washington, Director of Employee Relations and Sheila Fugett-McGill, Director of Student Financial Aid.

Big XII Conference on Black Student Government

  • The Big XII Conference on Black Student Government is an annual student leadership conference attended by UCO students who are determined to not only be active students on the UCO campus, but to better our campus and our communities!

Multicultural Student Services R.E.A.L. TALK

  • "Don't Just Talk About it. Be About it."  Where are the leaders in the African American Community? Is there no one willing to lead? Will anyone step up or is everyone just out for self? These are the questions that will be tackled during this R.E.A.L. Conversation session focusing on the need for leadership within the African American Community. The discussion will be facilitated by panelist Dr. Bill Pink, Assistant Dean of the College of Education; Tiffany Brown, Coordinator of Multicultural Student Services; and Phillip Thomas, Senior Communication Major. All are welcome! Free lunch is provided.

  • *In 2005, 49% percent of newly diagnosed cases of HIV were among African Americans.  Guiding Right, Inc. will administer FREE and CONFIDENTIAL bloodless HIV tests.  The results are available in 20 minutes.

NAACP and Impact: Hip Hop Forum

  • Hip Hop was once viewed as a vehicle for the African American voice. Is today’s hip hop still fulfilling this role in our communities? This forum will discuss four areas hip-hop: the media, Christian rap, negative portrayal of women, and how has hip-hop influenced our youth.

NAACP: 2008 Freedom Fund Award Banquet

  • Oklahoma State Youth and College chapters of NAACP are proud to host this year’s Freedom Fund Banquet. We will showcase our youth councils and college chapters’ activities and work in the community. The banquet will help the youth and college chapters attend the 2008 Regional NAACP Conference which is held in New Orleans, LA (March 27-29).  Tickets are $30.00 for adults and $25.00 for children.

  • Members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council will show appreciation for the dedication and support provided my African American faculty and staff.

Enrollment Management Diversity Day

  • Diversity Day offers high school seniors the opportunity to preview the University of Central Oklahoma! Seniors will be able to tour the campus, meet with representatives from different academic departments, learn about UCO’s multicultural organizations, and enjoy entertainment provided by UCO clubs and organizations.

Friday, February 29:
BSA 4th Annual Step Show

  • Come be a part of the excitement and fun that is the Black Student Association Step Show. Fraternities and Sororities will compete in a step competition for cash prizes. Rhythm, dance, and stomp are all incorporated in the African art form known as STEPPING!
