"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In our society lives an abundance of inequality and intolerance that test our students’ beliefs, values and ideas. As educators, we are challenged to prepare students to navigate in what can be an injustice society by providing them with the tools and information needed to become culturally competent and advocates for change. The Tunnel of Oppression attempts to dissolve the barriers that divide those who do not understand oppression and those who live it.

Through a multimedia tour, participants are exposed to different types of oppression, including racism, homophobia, sexism, abelism, body image, and domestic violence. The Tunnel is designed to challenge the senses and feelings of participants in a safe environment and to give students an opportunity to confront these issues directly and develop personal and societal strategies to address these areas of oppression.
