Marathon Training
This was the first
year of implementation and the program
was a huge success! The 2006 UCO Marathon
Training Team consisted of 30 students and 4 faculty/staff members.
The purpose of the
group was to bring together students, faculty, and staff who love to
run and provide them with educational information, group support,
and fitness training to reach their personal running and fitness
goals.
Student team member
Patrick Funkhouser stated, "I had a great time doing the training
and meeting everyone. If there is another training group - I will
definitely sign up".
Team members were
provided with running programs for a full marathon, half marathon,
and marathon relay team. The 12 week program started in
February and with the goal of running the Oklahoma City Memorial
Marathon on Sunday, April 29th.
The team met each
Wednesday afternoon for a short group run and for a question/ answer
session with running coach Trey Cone, UCO professor and avid runner.
On the weekends, the
UCO Marathon training team partnered with the Oklahoma City Running
Club for long runs. With nearly 100 people running each
weekend at various location in the metro - this was great motivation
and preparation for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.
